Sewer Camera Inspection in Orange County: Cost and What You Get
Disclaimer: prices here are broad general estimates, not quotes. Ask the contractor for a written price before the visit.
A sewer camera inspection (a “sewer scope”) is the cheapest way to find out what is actually wrong with a sewer lateral, and it should come before any quote for lining, bursting or replacement.
What it costs
As a broad general estimate, a residential sewer camera inspection is often in the range of about $150 to $500. Prices run higher when there is no accessible cleanout, when a toilet has to be pulled for access, or when the line has to be cleaned first. Some contractors credit the inspection toward the repair.
What you should get
- A recording of the full run from the cleanout to the main, or as far as the camera can go
- Footage marks for each problem, and ideally a located depth and position marked on the ground
- A written summary: roots, cracks, offsets, bellies, breaks, scale, and pipe material
Ask for the video file. It lets you get a second opinion without paying for another inspection.
When to get one
- Repeated backups or slow drains in more than one fixture
- Before buying a home, especially an older one with a clay or cast-iron lateral
- Before any trenchless or replacement quote
- After a repair, to confirm the work
